Architecture
AM TACHELES
Prestigious Architecture
that sets standards.

How do you design architecture that makes absolutely no compromises? Is it possible to forge inspiring unity from diverse creative forces? What happens when you conceive of architecture as culture?
To conceptualize this new urban quarter defined by its immense size and diversity, Herzog & de Meuron have teamed up with renowned Berlin architecture practices, Grüntuch Ernst Architekten and Brandlhuber+ Muck Petzet. The Swiss architects are acting as creative directors, ensuring that despite the great variety of building types at AM TACHELES, the result is nonetheless a harmonious, well-balanced ensemble. Planning support is being provided by Aukett + Heese and RKW Architektur + and Vogt Landschaft GmbH.
Cosmopolitan and Radiant
Five of the ten buildings were designed by Herzog & de Meuron. Since founding their practice in 1978, the architects and master planners have received numerous prestigious international architecture awards. With each of their designs, they create something truly unique for the specific location. Their reputation as uncompromising creatives who advance the art and culture of architecture is more than justified by this project. Together with the Berlin-based architectural firm Aukett + Heese, Herzog & de Meuron were also responsible for the complex and sensitive restoration of the former Kunsthaus Tacheles. In doing so, they preserved the building’s historic character while reinterpreting it with great care and a contemporary touch.

Masters of a Modern Architectural Idiom
Architecture agency Grüntuch Ernst was one of the first to close the gaps in the Mitte district’s lines of buildings with contemporary architecture. For the urban quarter AM TACHELES, they designed an office building and two residential buildings. With a calm, clear design language, the individual buildings take up their position naturally within the surrounding urban fabric and enhance the existing artistic diversity.
Brandlhuber+ Muck Petzet Architekten find architectural answers to contemporary questions of future urban living. The result: resolute structures that can be used flexibly and are in this sense truly sustainable. And this also defines their contribution to AM TACHELES: two residential buildings that are thought through down to the smallest detail and reinforce the bold, avant-garde architectural style of the project.
